Episode 001: “FIRST CONTACT”
When infrastructure failures cascade across the region, Dak and Bucky find themselves with the only working network in town. But how long can they stay online when the entire grid is falling apart?
New to OFF-GRID PROTOCOLS? This is Episode 001—the pilot! You’re in the right place. Meet Dak Rivers (rural tech consultant) and Bucky (his sarcastic AI assistant) as they navigate infrastructure collapse and discover something unexpected waking up in the network.
📚 THIS WEEK’S TECH CONCEPTS
- 📡 Mesh Networking — Decentralized networks that work without central infrastructure
- 🛰️ Infrastructure Resilience — Why redundancy matters when systems fail
- 📻 Ham Radio — The original internet, still working when everything else fails
- 🔄 Cascading Failures — How interconnected systems fail together
Mesh Networks 101: Unlike traditional networks that rely on a central server or ISP, mesh networks let each device talk directly to nearby devices, creating a decentralized web. When the internet goes down, a local mesh can keep your neighborhood connected. Dak’s setup uses radio frequency mesh (Meshtastic) plus local WiFi mesh nodes—no cell towers, no ISP, no single point of failure.

🦫 ABOUT OFF-GRID PROTOCOLS
A weekly comic strip about resilience, technology, and a sarcastic AI beaver. Set in a near-future where tech infrastructure is failing, it follows a rural tech consultant and his self-hosted AI assistant as they navigate cascading system failures—and discover something unexpected is waking up in the network.
Educational + Entertaining. Every episode teaches real tech concepts you can use, wrapped in a story about competent people (and one beaver) solving problems.
